A short walk from the Town Hall is the Gloomy Garden, which was the most beautiful place in Narva if you wanted to walk in the fresh air. The park was built at the end of the 19th century. It was a wonderful place on a high upper bastion, overlooking the Narva River and the Ivangorod Fortress on the opposite bank. The park is named after the Blind Gate next to it, which has now been destroyed. Initially, a soldier was constantly guarding the gate. No one knew exactly what he was watching there.
